What is this? Aflatoxins are harmful substances made by moulds. They can grow on pistachios if not stored right.
What's happening? Some pistachio kernels from the United States, sent through Turkey, had too much aflatoxin. Germany stopped them at the border.
Does this affect me? If you bought pistachios in Germany or Turkey, check the package. Older or weak people are more at risk.
What should I do? Throw away any pistachios that look mouldy. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you feel unwell after eating them.
