Salmonella

Salmonella (bacterial contamination)

A family of bacteria that cause salmonellosis — diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps. The most-reported food pathogen in EU RASFF notifications.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Which foods carry Salmonella most often?
Raw or undercooked poultry, eggs, meat, and (less commonly) raw vegetables, sprouts, and unpasteurised dairy. Proper cooking destroys it.
Should I throw out a Salmonella-recalled product?
Yes. Don't taste, don't feed to pets. Dispose of it in a way pets and wildlife can't reach. Clean any surfaces it touched.
